Can we
bring our own canoe and/or paddles?
Canoes and paddles will be provided. PFDs provided, but
you can bring your own if you like. You can now bring one
kayak paddle per team if you like
How many seats are in the canoe and if only two, can
we bring something for the third person to sit on?
Last year the canoes only had two seats. If that is the
case again this year, you can bring a third seat as long
as it does not damage the canoe in any way. We recommend
the third seat sold through www.Campmor.com.
How do I get to the race location?
Baker Creek State Park is located on Hwy 378, five miles
west of McCormick, SC. McCormick, SC is two hours west of
Columbia,SC, less than three hours east of Atlanta and one
hour north of Augusta, GA. If you can't find it, ask your
team navigator how to get there. If your navigator can't
find it, you might want to consider another sport.
Is the race spectator friendly?
The race has a central transition area through which all
racers will pass. ARs are not traditionally a great spectator
sport as it could be hours between transitions. We attempt
to have a mystery event or two near the transition area.
There aren't many activities for children and town is five
miles away. Bring food and games for the children and enjoy
the beauty of the park.
How tough is the navigation?
The Elite Race is designed to be very challenging, but reasonable.
We will not hide the control markers in bushes or make the
location unreasonable. We have been know to put a point
under a bridge or two. The Sport Race navigation is geared
to be basic in nature, but you may have some difficulties
if you don't have any experience.
Where Can I get navigation experience?
We hold a navigation clinic ( usually in March) which is
free to registered racers. You can also look into events
held by the US
