2002 This twelve-day trip served as the inaugural mission
of the organization and was performed in conjunction with
Hope Haven International Ministries. Nearly seven hundred
wheelchairs were distributed in two separate locations in
Vietnam. STW Founder Bill Werling served as team leader
for the Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) distribution
while another team worked further south in My Tho.
The wheelchairs for this mission were either refurbished
or manufactured in the United States and shipped to Vietnam
for distribution. The wheelchairs were shipped well in advance
of the distribution teams’ arrival. Even so, there
was last minute negotiations required to allow the chairs
to be released in time for the scheduled distribution. Although
many chairs were delivered there are still over 7000 pending
applications for wheelchairs in Vietnam alone.
Our future goals include establishing wheelchair collection
sites throughout the United States (US) and providing chairs
for those in need both domestically and internationally.
We want to continue to provide international physical therapy
assistance and identify and address crucial needs in the
US. The five members of the board of directors are licensed
Physical Therapists and as a result gravitate toward medical
humanitarian efforts and health promotion. Even so, we have
very diverse future plans. We want to continue our overseas
physical therapy services. We want to expand and offer more
health promotion and medical support domestically.
Please contact us if you are a physical therapist or other
medical professional interested in volunteering your services.
